Desde 1982, a Entidade Binacional Yacyretá estabelece o Refúgio de Vida Selvagem Atinguy, em uma propriedade de 100 hectares localizada a 18 km de distância da entrada da Cidade de Ayolas, na estrada que a liga com San Cosme e Damián. Lá são realizados a criação, reprodução e conservação da fauna silvestre e da vegetação existente no local; criação em cativeiro de espécies ameaçadas de extinção e educação ambiental, conhecimento, avaliação, conservação e pesquisa da fauna silvestre por meio de brochuras, cartazes, palestras, etc.
O acervo zoológico existente no refúgio é composto por 324 exemplares pertencentes a 111 espécies de mamíferos, 187 aves e 26 répteis, todos eles que habitam a área de influência da Barragem, embora também sejam trazidos animais de outras regiões do o país. Os animais são distribuídos em gaiolas, currais e recintos de criação livre, adaptados às condições adequadas a cada espécie para fins de observação, criação e reprodução.
Este setor das jaulas possui caminhos guiados por placas interpretativas que indicam a rota em torno do local e o nome comum e científico de cada espécie e suas principais características.
O horário de abertura é de segunda a domingo, das 08:00 às 14:00 horas.
